The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) experienced its busiest day of the year on Sunday March 20, 2011. CERT Call-Out Team volunteers relieved firefighters from non-emergency tasks such as, "stand-by" for fallen trees and wires down. |

On March 5, 2011, from 0700-1400, Los Angeles Fire Department hosted a CERT refresher at Fire Station 88 in Sherman Oaks, CA. The drill was a tremendous success. On June 18, 2011, CERT members participated in the Northeast CERT Medical Tarp Drill. In CERT Training Classes, the START video demonstrates the prompt and effective techniques of triage, transport and treatment of victims. This drill refreshed participants' skills necessary to properly respond to a disaster event. The drill scenario was an over-turned Transit bus with approximately twenty victims of varying injuries. | |
On August 25, 2011, CERT members helped at the LAFD 9/11 Tribute Send-Off Event to recognize the members of LAFD who were making the journey to New York City for the 10th Anniversary of 9/11. | |
On September 11, 2011, CERT members assisted at the 9-11 Memorial Ceremony at Frank Hotchkin Memorial Training Center. | |
"Hermon ShakeOut: The Play" Earthquake & Fire Evacuation Drill was held on October 22, 2011. It was a first-of-its-kind community-based drill. Northeast LA tested out everything from CERT emergency rescue to neighborhood evacuations. Based in Hermon, but involving all surrounding communities, there was first an earthquake, followed up by a fire and evacuation to the nearest Neighborhood Survival Area (where residents were provided free survival goodies). | |
On Saturday, April 21, 2012, we had our Tri-County CERT Refresher at Tejon Ranch in Lebec. CERT members from Los Angeles County, Kern County and Tulare County participated. |
